Born & raised in rural West Tennessee, Matia is a connector with a passion for service. As the Vice President of Community Engagement at Alignment Nashville, Matia is responsible streamlining the missions and resources of more than 150 partner organizations and 300 Alignment Team members to support the strategic plan of Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS).

Prior to joining Alignment Nashville, Matia spent six years in the Communications Department for MNPS. During her tenure, she lead efforts to restructure both internal and external communications, harnessing the power of social media to help MNPS more effectively communicate with families and stakeholders. She played a key role in the planning and execution of the district’s annual First Choice Festival.

Known for her energy, planning, and insight, Matia is passionate about civic engagement. She has served on numerous boards including Nashville Emerging Leaders, Nashville Pride Festival, and Metro Human Relations Commission Support Fund. She previously served as President of both the Davidson County and Tennessee Young Democrats, Treasurer for the Tennessee Equality Project and Vice President for Political Planning of the Women’s Political Collaborative.

Mayor Megan Barry has twice tapped Matia to serve on a city board. She initially served as a Commissioner for Nashville Community Education, before being appointed by Mayor Barry in 2017 to her current role as a member of the Board of Directors for Nashville Education, Community and Art Television (NECAT). In both situations, Matia’s appointment received unanimous support from the Metropolitan Council.

Matia holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, karaoke and eating at one of Nashville’s many new restaurants.
