Laini Brown was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 1st to Kenneth Brown a graphic artist and Marie Brown a literary agent, prior to her first birthday the family relocated to New York City. In 1996 she moved to Nashville. In 2000 she enrolled at Tennessee State University as a full time student majoring in Mass Communications. While at TSU Brown was the director of TSU News.
In 2004 Brown graduated from TSU with a B.S. degree in Mass communications, and began searching for a career that was in line with her degree. In 2005 Brown was hired by Hachette Book Group in the publicity department where she continues to work today, as a senior publicist, assisting various high-profile authors gain media exposure. In 2013 Brown graduated from Lipscomb University’s Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership with her master’s degree. In addition, she is a co-host on the news program Pumps & Politics. Currently Brown sits on the Board of the Young Leaders Council, The Global Education Center and recently rolled off The Housing Fund.
In her spare time Brown loves to travel and attend cultural events, so much so that she created a Facebook group, Laini’s Cultural Connections, to help spread the word about all the wonderful events happening in Nashville. Brown is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was active in the Media Ministry. Brown is the mother of Kia Noelle who a graduate of the University of Memphis and Taylor William who is attending Tennessee State University.
