Saho Hirose Witton was born in Shimane, Japan. She grew up in the countryside of Japan with her younger brother, parents and grandparents. Her mother and father owned a construction and rock quarry company. She was raised in Japan so her first language is Japanese, but she also speaks English meaning she is bilingual. She attended Kobe Women’s University for college where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Literature and education. Then she went into teaching and even taught at the school that she attended when she was younger. She met her future husband, who was an American teacher, in Japan.
