Brian T. Cornish is an accomplished and versatile musician playing both drums and woodwinds. A graduate of University of the Arts in 2015 (M.M. Jazz Studies) and William Paterson University in 2013 (B.M. Jazz Performance), Brian studied with Erik Johnson and John Hvasta on drums, as well as Larry McKenna and Vincent Herring on woodwinds. Brian plays professionally on Soprano saxophone, Alto saxophone, Tenor saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, and Drum-set.
Brian’s many years of harmonic and rhythmic study make him a multifaceted instrumentalist. He has experience performing and recording many different genres of music including: Jazz, Rock, Country Rock, Funk, Indie, Folk, Hip-Hop, and R&B. He has recorded and performed regularly in the Greater New York City Area on saxophone and drums, and he recently moved to Nashville to further pursue his music career.
While earning an Undergraduate Degree in Jazz Performance at William Paterson University, Brian had the opportunity to study Composing and Arranging with Grammy Nominated artist Pete McGuinness. Brian is skilled in composing string and horn arrangements, and actively arranges for groups that record at PonderRosa Studios in New Jersey.
Over the years, Brian has had the opportunity to share the stage with many accomplished musicians including: Claudio Roditi, Regi Wooten, Mulgrew Miller, Slide Hampton, Steve Turre, Larry McKenna, Vincent Herring, Bucky Pizzarelli, Steve Wilson, Pete Escovedo, Larry Harlow, Pete McGuinness, Dave Riekenberg, Glenn Franke, John Skehan of Railroad Earth, Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth, Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth, Don Braden, and many more.
Brian is currently the touring woodwind player with Quincy Mumford and The Reason Why, a band based out of Asbury Park, New Jersey. The band has been on multiple tours of the East Coast, playing different venues in Vermont all the way down to Florida. Brian is the drummer with Indie-band Rigbi, who is in the process of writing and recording their third studio album. Rigbi is set to record their second full-length album at Converse Rubber Tracks Studio in Boston at the end of May, 2016. Rigbi recently licensed their EP “Visionary” with broadcast networks on TV. You may hear their music in the background of some of your favorite TV shows! Brian performs regularly with the Glenn Franke Big Band on alto saxophone. Glenn Franke’s Big Band is featured on Marlene VerPlanck’s most recent studio album, “I Give Up, I’m In Love,” recorded at Water Music Recorders, in Hoboken, NJ.
