Shannon Taylor Gygi serves as the Director of Community Engagement for Freedom’s Promise, a locally-based nonprofit that seeks to prevent human trafficking in Southeast Asia through community development. She also oversees marketing and communications for the local nonprofit social enterprise ThriftSmart.
Originally from Athens, Georgia, Shannon received her BA from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an MA in Nonprofit Management from the University of Georgia.
Shannon has over 18 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, both in the US and internationally, including leadership in organizations focused on human trafficking, women’s and children’s issues, health care, social enterprise/retail and international missions.
Prior to moving to the Nashville area in 2014, Shannon served eight years in full-time missions, five of which she lived full-time in Kathmandu, Nepal. During that time, she established Mukti Network Nepal to connect and equip grassroots organizations in the fight against human trafficking.
In her current role with Freedom’s Promise, Shannon helps individuals and churches engage with the work Freedom’s Promise is doing to prevent human trafficking in Cambodia and Southeast Asia.
Through overseeing their marketing and communications, she also contributes to the ongoing success of ThriftSmart, a local nonprofit thrift store that benefits four Williamson County-based nonprofits.
In a roundabout way, Shannon met her husband of one year through ThriftSmart and considers him her best thrift score yet.
