Adriane Bond Harris is the Director of Mayor Megan Barry’s Office of Housing, which is focused on Nashville’s efforts to fund, build, and preserve affordable and workforce housing units. In this role beginning in November 2015, over $70 million dollars has been committed to housing efforts for low- to middle-income residents and families, including the implementation of the Barnes Housing Trust Fund, the voluntary Inclusionary Housing and the Housing Incentives Pilot Programs, as well as the use of Metro-owned property for housing development. With the launch of these programs and others over the past two years, over 2,000 affordable and workforce housing units are underway or preserved.
Adriane began her career as a land use planner nearly fifteen years ago at the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Planning Department. She later joined the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency and managed over $30M in federal grants as the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) manager. She also managed community development and affordable housing development projects throughout the county, including a mixed-income housing development on Dickerson Pike. Continuing this stabilization work, she consulted with nonprofit housing developers and business owners as the owner and principal of Impetus Strategies in 2013. Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office, Adriane worked with The Housing Fund, a local community development financial institution (CDFI), focused on creative financing and funding for community development projects and affordable housing development. There she primarily managed the Make A Mark program, a loan program for creatives and artists interested in owning their own homes and businesses.
She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Middle Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Tennessee—Knoxville. Adriane is also certified in housing development finance by the National Development Council and has served on various nonprofit boards and groups, including becoming the chair of the Affordable Housing and Community Growth forum in 2015 and as a Girl Scout leader in the Middle Tennessee area. Adriane has also completed the Right Brain Business Plan eCourse and received her certification in Coaching and Positive Psychology Institute in 2014 and enjoys working with individuals, organizations, and businesses to accomplish their goals and expand their mission. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Urban Land Institute. In 2015, Adriane was recognized by the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, during their Salute to Women as Business Woman of the Year in the Nonprofit category.
In 2017, she is one of twelve individuals selected across the country as a Fulcrum Fellow by the Center for Community Investment through the Lincoln Land Institute for their inaugural class. Through this fellowship, she is studying and advancing work related to African-American investment through land ownership and development.
She is the wife of Justin L Harris and is the mother of Jonathan and London Harris.
